Mid-Year Check in: Focus

Wow - I can’t believe that we are half way through 2018! How are your New Year’s Resolutions going? Focus has a major impact on the success rate of achieving resolutions. In fact, ninety-two percent of people don’t. One common cause of lack of focus is overwhelm.

If you are feeling overwhelmed:

  • Set a timer: Give each task a certain amount of time. This provides a visual reminder that you have to have this done, and it makes it into a fun game! See if you can beat the clock!
  • If you start, finish: When we don’t complete tasks start to finish we are really just doubling our work load. It is better and less stressful if you focus on completing the tasks that you can scratch off your to do list instead of carrying it over to the next day.
  • Break large tasks down into micro tasks: For example, a dirty kitchen. Start with one thing at a time. Load the dishwasher. Pick up trash. Clear counters. Sweep. Unload dishwasher. It sounds simple, but for those that struggle with overwhelm and anxiety, it is so easy to shut down and procrastinate. This technique gives you small victories that encourage you to keep on trekking.

Another way to help battle that overwhelming feeling is to use color theory! Blue is known to have a calming affect and can help you focus on the tasks at hand. Below are some great examples of this beautiful color you can use in your wardrobe. I hope that these tips help you as much as they have helped me!

All the love,

Mary Rooks
